You've probably heard about the online auction for U.T.E.R.U.S. (Union To Expedite Relief Until Self-Fulfillment) by now.
Last night, I spent some time going through my closets, bookshelves, dresser drawers, nooks and crannies and concluded that, not only do I have a lot of stuff I never use, that maybe someone would actually pay real money for some of it.
The idea of a rummage sale (or it's techie equivalent, online auction) gets me all excited. In the six years of my life between college and marriage, my mom and I went to rummage sales every Saturday in the summer (I lived in Wisconsin back then). We'd plan out our morning in advance -- I'd go over to her house Thursday night and we'd scope out ads in the newspaper and mark the locations on the map with post-its. We'd get up at 7 a.m, (the early bird gets the designer clothes!) on Saturday....well, she would, and she'd usually have to bang on my bedroom window in my apartment to get me up that early, and, being the great mom she is, she'd always have coffee in the car. We especially loved neighborhood sales so we wouldn't have to get grumpy from diving a long distance and making eight wrong turns for what sounded like the greatest.sale.ever, but which turned out to be the junkiest.sale.ever.
So I sent my first e-mail to Jen and Mel today with pictures, details, and prices. Since the auction starts on 4/10, I was worried it was too late in the game, but just a few minutes after e-mailing, I got a very happy response back from Jen that, no, it's not too late. I aslo asked if there was some minumum dollar amount they had in mind for stuff, since much of my stuff may not get much more than $10 or $20, and when I saw that some people donated pearls, I was a bit intimidated. But Jen said there is no dollar value limit, they are taking anything. Even so, I'll try to get the dog hair off of my once-favorite-BCBG-cashmere-sweater (which was 70% off but I'll leave that off of the ad!) before taking a picture of it.
My challenge to you for the next few days: Go Forth and Donate!! If you want to browse, buy, or check out what others have donated, here's the E-Bay page.

update 4/12: The US E-Bay page is now up.
Also, I had to rename this post from "Spring Cleaning / Donating." My husband read it and said "why do you have a picture of a uterus when you're talking about spring cleaning? Are you talking about cleaning your uterus?" Well he made me laugh and I didn't want to give anyone the wrong idea, seems I've been making a habit of that lately!
